| In Lukes gospel, Luke
22:39, we find Jesus in Gethsemane where often he withdrew with his disciples. But
this time, it would be different; this would be the final visit there before his
crucifixion. In Mark's gospel, Mark 14:36, he
[Jesus] prays that this bitter cup would pass from him, nevertheless not what he willed
but what the Father willed. He asks Simon "could you not watch one hour?"
[Verse 38 (watch and pray)]... "less ye enter into temptation, become careless and
disobedient."
The spirit truly is ready (in the forefront) but the
flesh is (without strength) weak. This is repeated twice again and when they
(the disciples) were confronted concerning their prayerlessness; they could not answer.
I want to stop here and talk a while about Verse 37 and
38. There are many things we face everyday. I myself cannot face each day and expect
to be successful, except I start it with prayer. There is so much that the eye can
see and ears can hear and so much temptation which the world offers.
I can truly say without a daily communion [prayer]
with my Heavenly Father, it is impossible to live a life completely, submissive to his
will.
With all the temptation Jesus was confronted with, he
overcame it. How? Through prayer...."not my will but thine be
done"....I believe prayer is what makes the difference in every situation and
circumstance we face daily. Prayer stops our intellectual minds and allows the Holy
Spirit to speak and strengthen our spirit man (Ephesians 3:16). |
